SINGAPORE, 16 April, 2014 — JFDI.Asia, Asia’s #1 Startup Business Accelerator, announced today that it will launch the first in a series of practical demonstrations and discussions around the most disruptive technologies of our time jointly with Singapore startup Coinpip.com. The essence of each Date with Disruption event will be a practical demonstration and an in-depth technical discussion of how it works, with opportunities for interested stakeholders ranging from investors to entrepreneurs and corporations to meet and participate hands-on.
The series will begin at JFDI.Asia’s innovation campus at 71 Ayer Rajah Crescent at 7pm on 7 May. That evening aBOOST:Bitcoin event powered by Singapore startup Coinpip.com will demonstrate the potential of bitcoin and its underlying disruptive technology – the “block chain” – which makes distributed consensus-building possible with far-reaching consequences. Attendees will have the opportunity to make real transactions using bitcoin, to see the technology behind it working ‘under the hood’ and to listen to an expert panel exploring its implications. Anyone interested in attending the event can sign up free of charge online.
Meng Wong, co-founder and Social Engineer at JFDI.Asia said: “When people think of bitcoin they generally focus on its applications to offering new kinds of currency. That’s perfectly valid but it’s only the tip of the iceberg. The underlying block chain technology could end up being as profound an innovation as the world-wide web, doing for trust between strangers what the web has done for information. In future years, pioneering Singaporeans may look back on this event and remember the day they truly understood the block chain.”
Meng Wong will moderate a technical panel discussion following the demonstration, which JFDI hopes will draw in experts from Singapore’s technical, regulatory and research communities alongside entrepreneurs putting theory into practice. Over 40 attendees from Singapore’s active bitcoin community have already committed to attend the event.
The practical demonstration at the event builds on coinpip.com’s successful ‘BOOST:Bitcoin’ parties already held in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. These have helped curious newcomers to learn the basics of Bitcoin first hand through experience. New users can open their first wallets and buy their first BTC at the ‘Bitcoin Vending Desk’. Experts will be on hand to answer a huge range of questions and offer valuable insight. Bitcoin-accepting merchants will also be present to offer products and services at discounted prices, which attendees can buy using bitcoins.
Anson Zeall, Co-founder at CoinPip, said: ” The purpose of BOOST:Bitcoin parties is to allow newcomers to mingle with experienced bitcoin users. Not only do we help new users set up their bitcoin wallets, BOOST:Bitcoin provides an environment where bitcoin users can buy and spend bitcoins in the same place. There will always be a featured talk session at the event. But we will give a slight twist to the BOOST Singapore party. ”
